About

The 'mage class' is one of the core classes that a hive produces. While being magically enabled is their primary draw, mages are also the researchers and scribes of the hive. They study human languages, copy books and test out new ideas.
Smaller mages are flighted, and many hives have designs for miniaturized versions that are used as messengers.
Personalitywise mages are friendly, curious and chatty. They spend most of their time exploring and trying out new things, flitting from topic to topic. Their enthusiasm carries them through many tasks at a rapid speed, though often long-winded ones (such as book transcription) will have to be picked up by another one after the first one loses steam.
They do well in mixed-class groupings, engaging readily with all types of units. Other classes have trouble keeping up with their rapid conversations, however.

Rose is a slightly defective mage. Not because of her personality or abilities. Rather, her noseplate has too little pigmentation. This makes her look unsettling to other tarspawn - like if a human had the eyes of a frog.
Of course, her friends get used to it.
She has trouble speaking verbally, and often paws at others with her mouth open to signal that she wants to communicate but can't find the words.
