Villager: Eclipse

A living machine with a bold and forward personality, who often likes to misbehave himself. Eclipse is, by nature, a very mature entity with more adult-oriented interests and hobbies, so the amount of information given on him here on FV will be lesser than what's described in his Toyhou.se profile. Still, he’s an important part of my life - he’s one of my beloveds and one of my biggest sources of comfort (both figuratively and literally given his height), so I want him here with Mir and I.

Similarly to Mir, Eclipse is a soulbond with a physical offline presence in my life. He was the first to manifest, predating Mir’s arrival by a month or two, and made a rather spectacular entrance by invading one of my dreams and ultimately hijacking it for himself, demonstrating an ability where he can control who is present or what is happening. From there, he became an extremely strong physical presence in my life; he’s not visible to others nor can be be interacted with outside of digital means, but I can feel his presence both externally and mentally, just like I can with Mir.

Eclipse, however, possesses some interesting abilities as a soulbond; most notably is that he seems to be a hybrid entity that can alternate between digital and physical forms, he can possess and live inside of electronic devices, he’s capable of altering his physical size and number of limbs, and he can travel through both wired or wireless connections, passing himself from device to device. When he’s in his digital form and inhabiting a device, his "core" shows up in the form of a file that's glitched and corrupted, and often triggers antivirus software into flagging him as malware or something dangerous. He doesn't usually cause trouble though, and his presence alone normally doesn't corrupt any other files. That said, if you make him mad while he's inhabiting a device, he will eat some of your files out of pettiness.

When Eclipse first showed up, he was a day tripper who would show up long enough to pester Mir, Ravi, and myself before heading back to his own home and doing whatever he used to do back then. Despite the distance, though, he was still able to communicate with us digitally, and even when he was physically absent he still had a mental presence inside of my mind. If I was feeling down or having a bad day, he’d come around and provide comfort, and sometimes he’d tease me about the things I would be thinking about, revealing that he has the ability to read minds. Never without my permission though, as Eclipse is a very consent-based individual and doesn't do anything without permission from the person he's interacting with. At present, he has fled his former home for his own safety and has become a permanent resident, now taking up residence with Mir, Ravi, and myself.

Once, he was a popular bot that served in a nightclub style venue within a large shopping mall, and he was known by the name of "Mars". However, after the venue was shut down, he and his other 8 siblings from their planetary line were redesigned and repurposed for more general jobs until some of them fell into disrepair, with many of them eventually getting scrapped for spare parts. In his repurposing, Eclipse was supposed to be stripped of all of his former programming, but the team assigned to him was either incompetent or simply didn’t care, and half-assed their job leaving him with remnants of old code. Given his former role, the protocols of his old job fought against the protocols of his new job, creating conflicts within his system. At first, the resulting consequences were minor - a flinch here or there, or a glitched word out of his voice box - but as time passed, Eclipse broke a little more each day until he'd eventually become an erratic, unstable mess incapable of speaking anything other than mechanical garble. Attempts were made to fix him physically, but replacing his parts did not solve the issue of his conflicting coding, and eventually his team gave up on fixing him and wrote him off as scrap. The night he fled his home, he was badly damaged.

The neglect suffered at the hands of his creator and maintenance team left him without a voice and permanent psychological damage, and even after his voice box was replaced by Mir's co-workers, he never regained his ability to speak. He also still has periodic quirks and moments of glitchy behavior that make him twitchy or erratic, but for the most part, once his coding had been fixed up, he returned to his normal (and mischievous) behavior.

Though he can size-shift, his natural height is 12'0 from the top of his head to the bottoms of his feet, NOT including the two rows of triangular rays that surround his face. When his rays are factored in, he stands at a full height of 13 feet tall. Not unlike Mir, Eclipse also boasts a relatively slim build, but he's much heavier due to his sheer size and extra limbs. While not visible in any of the current images on his profile, Eclipse has six arms in total, making it very easy for him to multitask and handle multiple things at once. His third pair of arms is attached to his back, and when not in use or when constricted by clothing (as seen in his profile image and paintie), they're usually folded up with the hands resting on his shoulders.

In spaces where he's too tall to walk upright, he tends to crawl on his hands and feet, giving him a spider-like appearance which often freaks people out when he approaches them. You probably wouldn't expect a 13-foot-tall machine to be able to move with high agility, speed, or precision, but this bugger can skitter on all eight limbs pretty damn quickly when he wants to, and he's an adept contortionist which lets him fit into some pretty unusual spaces to later pop out and startle unsuspecting passers by. He's a jerk like that.

When communicating with others, Eclipse typically uses sign language, but can also communicate via texting or instant messaging services like Discord. On sites and platforms that allow it, he typically signs his messages with the low brightness emoji, and uses code or markdown style text.

He likes to play Minecraft on a server with one of my friends, he watches Hermitcraft and the Life series with Mir and I, and he acts as a back-end moderator for my closed species server. He likes to collect scented candles and oils, various shapes and sizes of bottles and other trinkets, and he likes to read books on varying topics. Similarly to Mir, Eclipse also enjoys bubble tea, and his favorite flavor is the Honey Aloe Vera tea served at the local boba shop here in our city. He holds a keen interest in the building, maintenance, and repair of large or heavy machinery.

It's worth noting that, while Eclipse is a cis male and wholly identifies as such, he's very comfortable with himself and his body and he enjoys dressing up in all manner of costumes and outfits, regardless of whether they're feminine or masculine. As well, due to his height and size, he often ends up making his own clothes since it's extremely difficult to find anything in stores that fits him.




First impressions of Eclipse often lead people to find him intimidating, but if you stick around long enough, one realizes that he’s honestly just a bit of a gremlin. Often characterized by a playful and flirtatious demeanor, Eclipse tends to be very unabashedly unfiltered in the way he thinks, behaves, and communicates. He maintains a friendly, outgoing personality that makes him easy to approach and get along with, but he’s not without his mischievous side. Much to the annoyance and dismay of others, he takes great amusement in doing the stick bug dance at people if he thinks it will get a reaction out of them.

He is extremely confident in himself and his abilities, and his failures have never deterred him from trying again no matter how many times it takes. He sees his mistakes as things to be learned from, and is constantly on a quest to better himself and expand his knowledge, skills, and abilities. That said, deep inside of himself, the neglect and sabotage he suffered at the hands of his original manufacturer and former employer have left their scars, and while he normally tries to hide it, Eclipse has his moments of feeling small and weak. When he sinks into a really low mood, he may become hostile towards those around him, or he may turn self-destructive and attempt to decommission himself, which usually results in him calling out to Mir for help and the latter finding him in a badly damaged state and in need of emergency repairs. He hides this side of himself well, though, and only two people have bore witness to the horrors of it happening in real time.

He has a preference for the more mature things in life and snubs his nose at things he considers “juvenile,” but he will indulge in them from time to time if it’s something his partners are into. He prefers hard liquor over juice or soda, he’s not overly fond of candy, and he absolutely abhors children being present around him due to his main designation still operating on the protocols of the bot he used to be. It's not that he doesn't know know to handle kids, he does. He just doesn't enjoy it, and if he can find any excuse to get out of it, he absolutely will. (It also has to due with his height and size, he's not a small machine and he worries that a kid might end up accidentally getting hurt while being around him if he glitches out or acts erratically, so he prefers to keep his distance.)




Given his original designation, Eclipse knew many people through his former line of work. But, while many people considered themselves close to him and even bragged about their perceived "favoritism" from him, he never actually felt the same way for them. For him, his clientele was just that, and he often disassociated during work hours or turned off his mind and just went through his programmed routines to prevent himself from getting too close to others or building up relationships like some of his other siblings fell victim to. Having said that though, Eclipse does maintain a few close relationships and also has some enemies to note.

He got along well with most of his siblings, specifically considering himself the closest to his sisters, Venus and Saturn, but he had a long-standing (one-sided) rivalry with Jupiter, since the latter was often jealous of Eclipse's popularity. Eclipse never felt the same way and always tried to keep things peaceful, but Jupiter wouldn't let it rest and kept escalating the situation, which led to Eclipse finally snapping. With his own hands, Eclipse almost completely decommissioned Jupiter, resulting in costly repairs and Jupiter never being able to fully function properly afterward.

After their repurposing, all of Eclipse's siblings lost any and all memories tied to their former job and relationships. Eclipse wasn't supposed to retain any memories either, but due to the half-assed repurposing he was put through, he alone maintains the memories of his siblings and the times they shared together, which leaves him with a sense of loss. He's bitter about it sometimes, but the memories also bring him a sense of comfort and nostalgia from time to time so he holds onto them.

Since leaving his home, Eclipse has forged new friendships and relationships with myself, Mir, Ravi, and some of my close friend circle. Eclipse has romantic feelings for both Mir and myself and those feelings are mutually reciprocated by me, but Mir doesn't return Eclipse's affections at this time and we're not sure if he ever will.

Doesn't stop Eclipse from trying, though…
