Lured by the smells of delicious food cooking, you find yourself wandering into the main plaza of Ouroboros, where a feast deer is whipping up a, well, feast. He's not alone, either - Lyra is helping him, the little manokit excitedly pulling a container of cherry cobbler from where it had been buried in the ground and getting it set up on one of the long tables.
Noticing your presence, the deer sets down the platter of yams he was carrying and trots over to you, a smile on his face.
"Well, hello. Here for the Thanksgiving feast, are you? Everyone is certainly welcome. What's your name?"
"Nice to meet you. My name is Li, and I am the resident spirit of fall on the island."
Li gives you a wry smirk.
"And the last nature spirit to arrive, ironically. It's about time the season of autumn was represented here. Why, we can't have spring, winter, and summer monopolizing things, now can we?"
Li chuckles, shaking his head.
"Ah, but I'm getting distracted. Do you have any questions?"
"Oh, the feast? Yup, we have it every year. It's tradition on Ouroboros for the entire island to gather here, to partake in delicious food and spend time together as a whole. It's quite nice, though I must apologize if you do not speak Whistle. I'm afraid the island residents are quite bilingual, you see, and have no problems holding a conversation in both languages. Be sure to remind them if you don't understand, alright?"
"When did I arrive on the island? Mm, this year, actually. 2022 might be a doozy, but the year's end is nearly here. And it's not like we don't have things to be grateful for even now."
"Is there going to be a fireworks show?"
Li snorts derisively.
"Hardly. I hate the things. Far too noisy, and loud to boot. We get enough of those on the Fourth of July, Founding Day, and New Year's; we certainly don't need any more, no matter what Tiberius might tell you."
Li chuckles, shaking his head.
"Then again, he is a holiday spirit...I suppose it's simply in his nature, as a spirit of the New Year."
"Yes, there are more than just seasonal nature spirits out there. Holidays, landscapes, even the very elements themselves. We're quite the varied bunch, you see. Why, there's even a spirit of hearth and home, if you can believe. We get along quite well, as spirits of fall and the hearth. Our domains overlap rather nicely, as you can tell. Why wouldn't we get along?"
Li smiles.
"After all, there's nothing quite like sharing a good meal around the fire, in the company of dear friends and family. Don't you think?"
Lyra suddenly interrupts, calling Li’s name with a decidedly impatient tone. The deer chuckles helplessly.
"Well, it seems the little one is getting impatient. Perhaps it's for the best; I'm told I can ramble, and this spread certainly won't finish preparing itself. The Thanksgiving feast starts at six o clock; you will be there, right?"
Without even giving you an opportunity to answer, Li trots off, humming happily. Well, with an invitation like that, how could you refuse? It's free food, after all. Free food and company. And judging by the smells that brought you here in the first place, it'll be a feast well worth the wait.
