Walking down the street, you initially jump at the sight of what seems like a sea monster that’s just turned the corner, only to relax as you realize it’s just a snake villager, with an electric jelly at his side.

"Heh, did I startle you? I haven’t seen you around, are you a new arrival or just visiting?"

"Visiting, cool. My name’s Jörmungandr. Yes, after the world serpent. Mom and dad thought it would be funny, see."

Here the snake rolls his eyes, though you can tell by the small smile on his face and the fond tone of voice that he’s not actually mad.

"Oh, I’m not from Oceandome. Haha, no, I was born in Tiger Eye Peak actually. Surprising, right? You can see why I moved here."

"My jellyfish? Oh, this is Fulgurite. I was exploring the ruins of an old pirate ship when I ran into a whole school of electric jellies, and he took a shine to me. And as the saying goes, he quite literally followed me home. Good thing my house is aquatic or I’d have a hard time keeping the little guy."

"What do I mean by aquatic? Well, there’s two kinds of houses Sora builds; terrestrial and aquatic. Terrestrial houses have the canal stop in front of their house, whereas aquatic houses don’t. Inside is a basement level filled to the first floor with water, and there’s a platform inside the house at the front door where stairs lead down into the water a bit before becoming a sheer wall. The canal goes underneath that and through a grate of course. All in all, it’s quite the ingenious design, no?"

"Why did I decide to be an explorer? Because I love exploring. Even as a snakelet, I was constantly poking my nose into every nook and cranny. Sometimes I got bit on the nose for my troubles, but often, I’d return with a bauble or two to freaked out parents. I was quite a handful then."

"Hobbies? Hmm...well, I don’t know if I’d call pearling a hobby, per se. It’s more like a really fun job - you should see my house, I’ve got pearls of all colors and sizes in there. Some I keep to collect, and others get made into various trinkets and such by my neighbors here. Diving for pearls is quite a bit of work, but well worth it in the end.”

Jörmungandr suddenly chuckles.

“Morgan, Xino, and Ephemera are constantly in awe when they come with me. They act like kids on an Easter egg hunt, and it’s hilarious. They must’ve been out more than a dozen times, but the magic still hasn’t worn off for them.”

“Ahem. Well, aside from that, I like singing. Pikabolt, Morgan, Tienyo and I will sometimes sing songs together, it’s really fun. Especially at sundown when the entire island joins in song together in Whistle in the traditional Oceandome custom. I love it."

"I’ve been teaching Brenna Whistle too. Sailor she may have been but she doesn’t seem to have ever learned the language. Or if she did, it’s lost to her now. That’s okay though. She’s a quick study, and just about fluent now."

"Hmm, Southpaw? Well...yeah, I used to hate pirates. But, getting to know Southpaw...I got to know another side of them. And that helped me, a lot. I've overcome that now."

Just as soon as the serpent finishes speaking, the lilting sounds of Whistle pick up in the distance. That voice is soon joined by another, and then another.

"Whoops. I got back later than I thought. Well, it was nice meeting you. I’ll see you around if you’re still here tomorrow."

And with that, Jörmungandr begins swimming down the canal again, his voice joining the others in their gentle, almost forlorn song as he presumably makes his way home.
