“Well hiya there!”
You look up from where you had been sitting at the café. It’s mid-day, and you were sitting at one of the walls. You had been going about your business peacefully, only to be suddenly interrupted by a hyena whose tail was wagging a mile a minute. She was pretty tall, with a wide grin that exposed large and sharp teeth in a excited smile. Her wide eyes were blue, staring at you curiously. Her dark gray mane was fluffed up, looking to be one of the softest things you had ever seen. Without even asking, she took the seat right across from you, placing her elbows on the table and her head in her paws. You stared back at her, bewildered.
“Whatcha doin here?” the hyena yipped. You gave an answer, not sure what to think of this strange creature, and she responded excitedly. “That’s pretty cool!” she had laughed. You were sure that if you had said something decidedly un-cool, her answer would have been the same. “Anyways, my name is Snake Silverscales, Snake for short, and it’s niceta meetcha! Put ‘er there!” Silver immediately stuck out her paw, and you took it as she commenced the vigorous handshake. This hyena was something alright.
A sudden movement caught your eye, and you looked up to see her mane moving all on its own. A small head popped out— that of a Doberman Pincher. It glared at you with narrowed brown eyes, pointed ears standing up straight in alert, scrutinizing your every move. When you started staring back, it growled and bared its fangs. “Oh, hush up Butch!” Silver giggled. She pat the pup with a growl. “Butch” only growled more and batted her paw away. “Don’t touch me, he huffed.”
Did- did that minipet just speak? Silver seemed to read your expression and nodded eagerly. “Yep! My buddy-friend-pal Butch here mouthed off to a witch, and now he’s a little mini-dog! So I’m keeping him nice and safe in my head floof!” Silver patted Butch again, and he rolled his eyes, exhaling sharply out of his nose. Same, buddy. Same.

Snake is a fluffy ball of pure, concentrated enthusiasm. Happy to a fault, Snake is always cheerful to the point where it annoys others. In typical hyena fashion, she has some rather big teeth, which she often flashes in her wide grins. She also laugh a lot, and finds a lot of things funny whereas others might not. She has no volume control due to being partially deaf, and is very forgetful of this. She often talks way too loudly, on the border of straight-up yelling, to the point where others sometimes have to step in and ask her to lower her voice. The sheepish and apologetic face she gives them makes it easy to feel bad about it, since it's not something she's learned how to control yet. Snake also can be much too blunt at points. It's hard for her to empathize with others, and though she tries her hardest, sometimes her words come off as harsh or rude without her meaning it. The typically non-confrontational hyena can also hold a grudge for way too long. If someone pushes her to yell or fight, she won't easily forget it, and sometimes even fantasize about revenge. But, overall, Snake is a good hyena, who wouldn't hurt or even want to annoy others unprovoked.
Snake is a child at heart. Her sweet tooth is bigger than Dragonsmaw Manor, and if she has access to candy and other delectable delights, then its hard to get her to refrain from eating them, and even harder to get her to stop once she's started. She often does things that others would consider childish, from jumping on the bed to stalking the ice cream truck that occasionally rolls around. The hyena is also very messy, and others will literally have to force her to clean her workspace since she's usually too lazy to get around to it. She can often be an airhead and hopelessly oblivious at times, but she isn't dumb. In fact, quite the opposite. Snake loves to analyze things, from movies to literature, and could gush on and on about the nitty gritty details. She's not gullible, and it is usually pretty hard to fool her. The hyena also loves puzzles and riddles, and though her short-term memory sucks (especially when navigation, names, and faces are concerned) her long-term memory is amazing.
Snake loves her job in Silverflecked Village, which is writing the daily newspaper. She has contacts in the large towns that keep track of major events for her, as well as assistants that live in Silverflecked and tell Snake when something of minor importance happens. Her part in the newspaper only includes writing it, and though she writes the whole thing, she has assistants who help edit and deliver the paper. When Snake leaves town, it is they who must take up the task of writing it, and while it still gets the news around, the villagers can always tell that it isn't the same. Snake dreams of becoming an author one day, and her office is scattered with disheveled notes of various stories that are thought out but nowhere near finished.
One last thing-- Snake was raised by a family of, you guessed it, mongoose. What, that's not what you expected? Snakes or hyenas was the much more likely choice? Well, Snake never knew her birth family. She was dropped off at an orphanage in Dragonsmaw Manor when she was about a year old, and the figure never gave any reason for it. She lived at the orphanage for about half a year, screaming when she wanted attention and biting things (and villagers) when she didn't get it. Luckily, a pack of mongoose were looking for someone to add to the family, and the feisty hyena pup was a perfect candidate. They adopted her, and indoctrinated her into their gang. Her name was going to be "Silver Snakescales", since "Snakescales" was the family's title since each member wore snakeskin clothes fastened from the scales of monstrous serpents. But, they already had a group member names Silver, so they called the hyena pup Snake Silverscales instead. Snake had a happy upbringing, learning how to fight monsters and serpents alike. When she was old enough, she even got her own snakeskin clothes, with scales darker than night that would help the nocturnal hunter blend into the darkness. But eventually, Snake wished to pursue a career in writing instead of monster hunting. One tearful goodbye and heartfelt promise to keep in touch later, and Snakeset off to Silverflecked Village. Snake loved her adopted family very much, and sends letters to them weekly. It's a bit hard to reach them at times, since the pack moves around all the time, but its nothing a carrier pigeon can't handle! Sometimes, a family member will visit Silverflecked Village, and Snake will introduce them to all of her friends, usually telling the story of her upbringing to a very confused villager who also did not assume Snake to have been raised by mongooses.
