Species Designation #5D0E2B524BCD: Polar Apicanine Transmorph

The Polar Apicanine Transmorph, endemic to the planet of 1822 Hydrae VII, is best known among xenobiologists for its unusual life cycle. Similar to Terran apian lifeforms, these life-forms are organized around a central figure which continuously spawns new offspring. These offspring, known as "pseudopups", resemble humanoid white lupines with blue eyes.

Apicanine Workers make up the majority of the species' population, and are tended to by older workers until they mature. Upon maturing, the workers undergo a "molt" where they lose their lupine features, metamorphosizing into humanoid apian life-forms in the process. Compared to Controllers, Workers are not likely to be hostile unless directly threatened.

Apicanine offspring destined to become Controllers rapidly become self-sufficient, after which they leave their host colony and become "dispersal drones". These are reproductively immature individuals that seek out colonies of the Polar Hydrox. This step is critical, as the immature phase of the Apicanine has evolved specifically to mimic the appearance and behaviors of the Polar Hydrox. Consequently, many immature Apicanine Controllers are killed by migrating into foreign Apicanine nests or colonies of the sandy-colored and more aggressive Spined Hydrox.

Once an Apicanine Controller has established itself in a Polar Hydrox colony, it undergoes a series of rapid internal changes initiated by exposure to Polar Hydrox communication pheromones. This stage is known as "molting", and allows the Apicanine Controller to reach reproductive maturity. During this phase, it also weaponizes the Polar Hydroxes' communication pheromones in order to lure them to its location and take control of their bodies, transforming them into helpless subordinates that it can use as it builds its new colony.

This unidentified organism is the first sighting of an Apicanine of any morph in Furvilla. It was caught in Dragonsmaw Manor pretending to be a white wolf, before metamorphosizing into an apian lifeform shortly after being relocated to the settlement. Please report any similar sightings to [REDACTED].

This female Apicanine's life has been spared following a tentative agreement as of [REDACTED], where she will provide food services in exchange for her continued existence. So far, it has not been necessary to enforce compliance. Interestingly for her caste, this Apicanine is highly timid and tends to flee from confrontation. It is likely that integration into this settlement was the best-case scenario for a Controller unable to function in its intended role.
