Rowan is infected with
Lycanthropy. Changes into a beastly monster after exposure to moonlight or especially frustrating board games. Howling at the moon relieves the symptoms for a little while, but use a Golden Apple for best results.

Walking along the docks, looking curiously at the angelfish you can see in the shallows, your observations are unfortunately short-lived as the fish are scared away by the arrival of the Singing Tide, the boat you came to the island on. Disembarking from the boat is a Saggitari who has clearly seen her fair share of battle, if the scar running across her blinded eye is of any indication, with a mythic wolf cub at her side, chains clinking rhythmically as she moves.
"Oh, hello. Did you just move in, or are you a visitor here?"
"Just visiting? Gotcha. Ouroboros is definitely a neat place. I fell in love with it when I was a visitor just like you."
"My name? I'm Rowan, and this is my loyal battle partner and companion, Tael. Pleased to meet you. And yours?"
"That's a fine name."
"What was I doing on the boat? Oh, it was my turn to guard the Singing Tide while Kahjah sailed it across the Aqualis Sea. There are plenty of monsters who are more than happy to surface from the deep to attack ships, so all of the warriors here take their turn defending the ship. The Singing Tide is rather important to our economy, after all. If it got wrecked not only would Kahjah and Brenna be upset, but we wouldn't be able to ship out our costumes to our customers until it was fixed. Or rebuilt, if it was sunk..."
"Oh, I'm talking about the costume shop we run. And by we I mean the entire village. We take mail orders from our customers, and make the costumes from the materials we gather from explorations and battle alike."
The Saggitari quirks her lips up in amusement.
"It definitely takes a village, running our little store. But we don't mind."
"What happened to my eye? I was wondering when you'd ask. Long story short, where I lived, there was this lunar demon god, Ulkktar, who decided he was going to end the world. I disagreed, we fought, and he died before I did. Just barely."
Rowan shakes her head, before letting out a quiet huff of laughter.
"You know how the saying goes, and eye for an eye and all that. I mean, I went a lot further than just an eye in this case, but you know what I mean. I got him more than back for taking my eye, that's for sure. Just- please don't call me godslayer, I get enough of that from those who were there. Even one-eye is better than that."
"Where am I from? Technically Olde Foxbury, but not the capital city. Or any city, really. I grew up with my mother in the forests outside, beyond any of the villages. The battlefields, basically. I learned everything I know from her."
"Why'd I move here then? Well, I have a pre-tty bad case of wanderlust. After a while, once I could take care of myself, mother encouraged me to go. I met my friend Polaris out there while I was traveling; her wanderlust is just as bad as mine. I still visit my mother, of course. And even though Ouroboros is my home now, I still wander both the mainland and the ocean floor. Sanuye's charms of water breathing are a heaven-sent in that regard, I could kiss the villager who made them."
Rowan laughs.
"Could, not would. But I'd definitely love to get them something nice. Perhaps something from the ocean battlefields? Sanuye's from a desert, that should be pretty novel for them..."
"Oh, sorry. Did you need anything else?"
"Tael? Oh, she's been with me since I was small. We didn't hit it off initially, but over time, we became close friends. She was by my side during the battle against Ulkktar; I was afraid I'd lose her, but she turned out to be the less injured of us when all was said and done. Tael stood watch over me while I healed; she and Polaris have been dear friends of mine."
"How'd we meet? Funnily enough, when we'd both circled back around to Olde Foxbury in our travels. We make quite the wandering pair, she and I, but it's nice to have someone who understands that need to move."
"Hobbies? Well, aside from training, I love playing the ukulele. Sitting out in nature, music echoing in the air...there’s nothing quite like it. I also really like to fish. Brenna and I will spend hours out on the docks fishing and talking, and generally just spending time together. It's quite nice, if you have the patience for it. Some days we come back with nothing, others we get quite the haul."
"Belpehgor? Why would I kill him? He's not hurting anyone, and I-"
"Ohhh. You want to know why we haven't tried to kill each other yet."
Rowan shrugs.
"Well, for starters, so long as everyone's happy and no one's getting hurt I could care less what species someone is. And on his part, self-preservation. He's a demon lord, not even a prince or a god. He's by no means weak, but neither was Ulkktar. Not to mention the fact that demons are constantly battling for power and status, so me taking out one of the 'top dogs' so to speak has made his life easier. But I digress."
"Ah, I'm afraid I'll have to excuse myself. I promised Brenna we'd go fishing as soon as I got back. It was nice meeting you. Hopefully I'll see you around."
With a final wave, the Saggitari warrior and Tael trot off into the village proper, leaving you alone with nothing but the boat and your thoughts. You can see Kahjah and Brenna on the boat, perhaps you should talk to them?
