Kalliope was the eldest of the classical nine Muses, said to be the offspring of Zeus and Mnemosyne. She was the goddess of eloquence, Muse of epic poetry and also mother of the bard Orpheus. Her name means beautiful voice, from the Greek words kalleis "beautiful" and ops "voice".
