Fern is not a cat, despite her appearance. She is a Holiday Forest Spirit, mostly incorporeal, wandering around other furries. The only time Fern ever becomes a 'solid' being is during the Winter Holiday, where she gathers with other Holiday Spirits to spread cheer and joy. Once the Festival is over, she becomes ghost-like once again, watching over her furry friends until the next Festival.
