I've gotten around to teaching Harley how to do more detailed work. Now along with standard swords and shields, she's able to do pieces that look fancy too. At first she didn't see the point of froofy hilts, protesting that a good blade was more important - and let me tell you, I was proud of her for that. Very sensible furry. But while looks may be second, there are times when you want to blend in someplace fancy and still be able to flatten anything that comes at you. Festivals, for example. A sword tends to throw a damper on things, but not as much as a rampaging Cerberus, let me tell you, so you learn to compromise.
It's really good to have a student. I hadn't realized how much I miss doing things since retirement, but teaching Harley how to pound out a proper shield has been really rewarding. Of course, I can't swing more than one or two times myself, but she has a strong arm and a quick mind, so she doesn't really need it.
No matter how old and creaky I get, I will always love the Snow Festival. Of course, I don't need to be out there squirreling around with the youngsters, so I mainly go on walks and enjoy the decorations. This year I discovered that our young handy hyena, Harley, has apparently taken up smithing. Found the poor thing trying to teach herself some of the more complicated aspects of shield repair, so I stopped to give her some pointers. I can't wield a hammer anymore, but it looks like I might still be of some use.
