Once a guardian angel, Wisp was stripped of four of their wings and their halo was broken after they committed a grave sin. Their charge was killed, and instead of learning from that failure and accepting a new charge, they hunted down the killer and slaughtered them.
They still carry their halo, now little more than a garbage trinket, because they believe they were in the right. Nowadays they hunt down monsters using magic and a faded version of their former angelic powers, which is still quite terrifying.
