About
Quex is a Culpeo Fox who was born in Peru as Rodrigo and imported to Germany when he was 3-4 months old where he was given the name Quex, which means 'Quicksilver'.
"I remember my childhood quite vividly", he says. "The mountains, the plains, the forest I was born in, and of course the humans. But these humans, they were different. They could almost talk but it was garbled. So I tried to ask where they're from or if they have any food for me. They ended up taking me to their homeland, and I soon learned they had come to Peru for scientific exploration so, it's only natural they would want to take one of its natives back with them. I had a sense of adventure so really didn't care that I was leaving my family behind, but I regret not saying goodbye. Anyway... what's done is done"
Quex was thus raised in German society for the rest of his youth and lived a somewhat glamorous life as a celebrity. He got along very well with people and was treated much like a dog or cat, rather than a wild animal. Walked on a leash through town, being pet by little children and even taken into cafes where he'd eat at the table just like a human. He was very calm, relaxed and well-mannered. But the day came when that glamorous life was no more and he was forced to wander the streets like a common red fox, hunting birds and rodents.
"The people were hard-pressed for food and many many animals were on the streets starving as well. So often I would see humans feed cats and dogs before themselves. It's remarkable. I kept away, not wanting to take any of their food, regardless of how hungry I was most of the time. But I managed to subsist on prey and rubbish, until I died"
