Atlas’s family wasn’t considered wealthy, but they weren’t poor, either. He spent a lot of his time outside of the house, learning about the culture and meeting new people. On one of his first solo ventures out of the house, Atlas met Maelie, the Honduran white bat that lived in the same neighborhood as him. Intrigued by her obsession for growing plants, Atlas would stop by her garden a few times each week. It wouldn’t be until he was a young adult that they drifted apart.
Atlas traveled all over Oceandome for a year, taking in the sights and learning as much as he could from different villagers. When it was time to settle down, he decided to pick a village only a few over from where he was raised. When he first arrived, Atlas took the time to settle in before heading over to the herbalist gardens. Among the few herbalists that were already set up was Maelie, his childhood friend. He watched her closely over the next few days, and noticing she could only keep Teal Trumpets alive, Atlas was ridden with guilt and finally admitted to Maelie that he had been sneaking in and helping her garden all those years ago.
