The V. Y. Canis Majoris is the 2nd runner-up for biggest known star (so far) in the Milkyway Galaxy. This hypergiant star has been estimated to be around 2,000 times the size of our sun, and about 4,000 lightyears away from the Earth. As this star keeps burning brighter and brighter, it consumes it's own mass. In about 6 seconds, the VY Canis Majoris puts out more energy than our sun in a year. This causes the problem of it being able to explode at any time. However, if it doesn't explode/die out, it may instead turn into a supernova. And if this explodes, it could very well form into a black hole.
