About
Thatch grew up in a wealthy family. His father was a blacksmith, his mother a tailor. During his childhood, Thatch spent a large amount of his time apprenticing under his father. In his free time he was permitted to wander the village so long as he had bodyguards following him. Thatch wouldn’t get into major trouble until he was older, and interested in a young Persian in town. She, unfortunately, had ill intent and tried to abuse Thatch’s position in the town to her advantage.
Thatch’s father insisted that Thatch spend more time in the blacksmith store once again. He spent his remaining youth working at the shop whenever he could, learning how to repair items, and eventually create them. Thatch’s father approached him about taking over the store one day, and Thatch agreed that he would. While Thatch and his father continued to run the store, an economic collapse was brimming. When people asking for repairs were only offering little over one furcash, Thatch realized that he wouldn’t be able to make a living as a blacksmith anymore. Not wanting to have the conversation with his father, who quite clearly knew himself, Thatch packed up in the middle of the night and left.
Heading for the harbor, Thatch found passage on a ship as a swabbie. After they had left the port, Thatch noted the black flags being raised, and quickly realized he was on board a pirate ship. Swallowing what little pride he had left, Thatch continued working on the ship for the next 5 years. When the Captain learned he was formerly a blacksmith, Thatch rose ranks quickly and eventually took over as Master Gunner. It wouldn’t be until he discovered Oceandome that Thatch would settle down in a village, once again returning to the blacksmith trade.
