Ichigo is the villager's lead warrior by default. He is very shy, but skilled in battle. This red panda has faced some fearsome foes in his career. However, he always emerges unscathed, and victorious. His experience and skill led to his high position in the village, not his leadership skills.
It isn't that he isn't a good leader, he's just rather quiet. Nobody except Momo and Miko know really anything about his past.
