About
Chubs is a 400-year old jelly that has attached to Beej's cerebellum.
It is a thumb long and communicates to its host telepathically.
Although Chubs can take full control of his host, at will, he refrains from doing so unless there is an absolute dire need to do so.
Despite hiding within Beej's body, it is still highly susceptible to muck. Even though Beej is human, much of his physical form has been replaced with jelly matter, leaving him vulnerable to muck whether thru direct contact or airborne inhalants.
Jelly is the colloquial term for gelatino-fungal organism, a race of parasitic beings created by Beej.
They do not age and can reproduce sexually and asexually.
They also do not possess the concepts of gender, sex, morals, or sadness. They do, however, feel other emotions such as anger, happiness, excitement, etc.
Their most unique trait is their remarkable adaptability. They can evolve in decades what any other organism would take aeons. In just a few centuries, the more intelligent jellies can ascend into the metaphysical keepers of the universe.
One reason for this is that jellies can not only instantly transfer memories and experiences from each other, as a family of fungi would, but also to their children. Each subsequent generation of jellies grows exponentially more intelligent.
Upon their creation, jellies were about as intelligent as the average house cat, but within days they grew more intelligent, and more powerful, than most humans. Because of this, humans quickly perceived them as a threat, and reacted with violent means.
Jellies are only aggressive when provoked. Otherwise, they will seek to develop consensual mutual symbiotic relationships with other organisms.
However, once provoked, jellies will become extremely aggressive, nearly unstoppable killing machines. Their adaptability, tenacity, and invasiveness allows them to easily eradicate entire species on a global scale, as nearly done so with humans.
Despite overwhelming power, jellies are averse to drive other species to extinction. Instead, they prefer whittling down belligerent species to a manageable, localized scale, where they can then avoid these species with ease.
Jellies usually take the appearance of plants, fungi, or even insects, but can mold themselves into practically any shape or form. As shown with Laug, they often lack finesse in their transformations and appear ghastly to humans.
Much like the pillar men, jellies consume with their entire body. Each cell devours the matter next to it. Jellies do not defecate, as every iota of matter consumed is either added to the organism's total mass or incinerated for fuel.
When a jelly wishes to attach itself to an organism, it will extend its communicative tendril towards its brain, allowing the two organisms to communicate, no matter the species. This allows the jelly to show its intent to the possible host. If the host concedes, the jelly and the host will coalesce as one organism.
The host will still have fully independent thought and motor control, but the jelly will regenerate any wounds it may acquire, as well as garnish it with an arsenal of adaptive weapons, intelligence, and other helpful traits.
The two may communicate directly though the jelly's communicative tendril to the host's brain.
Jellies also have the option to inhabit dead organic matter. This is not as efficient as entering a living host, but can be favorable for jellies who desire direct control over their husk.
Jellies can also construct amalgamates. They can absorb multiple organisms and fuse them together mentally and physically. A jelly may choose to live with a single host, or millions.
Nearly all jellies disintegrate on touch with a combination of certain antifungals such as fluconazole and lactose. This combination is commonly referred to as "muck".
Although jellies have no real internal organs, each jelly is created with a single communicative tendril, frequently referred to as the "heart" of a jelly. It looks like any other tendril a jelly possesses, except they are hollow and have glowing holes and lacerations. Inside the tendril is a bundle of nerve fibers that embody the jelly's entire physical being. Even slightly damaging these fibers can lead to corporal death. Due to this extreme vulnerability, jellies often hide this tendril deep within their bodies or amidst a tangle of larger, tougher protective tendrils.
Each also possesses an ORB (Olan's Reticular Body), or the "soul" of a jelly. Whereas the heart of a jelly encompasses it's physical being, the ORB encompasses its mental being. They are usually located in the most central part of the organism, what humans would most likely term the "chest." One who touches an ORB can either peacefully flow into the mind of the creature, or forcibly absorb all the knowledge and experience in the creature's possession, resulting in its death. Usually, only jellies contain the mental fortitude to perform such an action, however, a host aided by a jelly, or even a pure human with extreme mental strength, may absorb an ORB as well.
However, if an organisms attempts to absorb an ORB, but lacks the mental fortitude to do so, their mind will be overloaded with somatic feedback in an attempt to integrate the experiences locked within the ORB, resulting in an agonizing death.
Jellies are not the only organisms with ORBS. A host with particularly large amounts of experiences and mental energy may also develop an ORB. However, these are usually much smaller and less tangible than those of jellies.
Jellies allow their hosts to regenerate from nearly all physical damage, although any damage caused by muck is practically irreparable. Rich energy sources, such as radioactivity or ORB energy, will hasten the process. Normally, regrowing a limb might take months, but consuming a medium sized ORB will allow it to regrow within minutes.
