Villager: Bubbles

Bubbles is a young orphaned fawn who lost her parents to the illness that suddenly plagued her home village. Somehow luck had been on her side through those hard times as she managed to get by without becoming ill - as well as a few others.

One who also happens to be her friend that goes by the name of Dona. Dona was a cook at the local restaurant before everything went down hill, Bubbles and her parents would visit often since they really enjoyed the food. From there, friendship blossomed between them.

After the tragedy of losing her parents, Dona took Bubbles under her 'wing' and continued to raise her to the best of her abilities. It was tough, not ever being a parent herself, but Bubbles proved to be a calm and obedient little fawn. Though, to be expected, there were times where Bubbles would have a sudden fit, attempting to thrash and hit Dona whenever she would try to comfort her while screaming 'you're not my mother!'. It was truly heart breaking for the tan rabbit, not because Bubbles didn't consider her a mother, but because she could only imagine the loneliness and pain of losing two people she loved dearly.

Usually after the fit would come to an end, Bubbles would apologise and spend the next few hours in silence. It drove Dona nuts - not being able to do nothing for the child she'd grown so fond of, but she knew only time would help.. she hoped. She would always hope, hope to see that smile again, hope to hear that cute laugh, to bring back even a fraction of the happiness Bubble's once had.

A few months have passed with little difference other than Dona working overtime now that the restaurant was open and free from 'contamination'. Before, it was just herself to feed, but now that the rabbit had another mouth to feed; she has been finding herself becoming exhausted. Bubbles had noticed this, of course, nothing gets passed that fawn. Dona had been quick to realise that over time, no matter how secretive she would try to be about certain things.

One day, when Dona arrived home from work; she had caught Bubbles sitting on the couch looking through several books. The rabbit quietly stepped behind the fawn and peeped over her shoulder, it took her by surprise that the child was looking up recipes and creating formulas so that tea that can be used for not only enjoyment, but turn some it into medicine to help illnesses. It became clear to Dona then that Bubbles was trying to prevent other people from falling victim to the same fate as her parents, but why tea?

When Dona asked, Bubbles merely shrugged and explained that her mother was very fond of tea and had a wide collection back at her old home before the house had to be sold for funds to pay for the medicine her parents had to use.

"I want to help our people by getting rid of this plague that is spreading through our country. I don't want anymore families to lose their loved ones."

Dona was taken aback by the statement, and as admirable as that goal was - helping a whole country was a bit of a stretch. Regardless, the rabbit supported Bubbles no matter what and even put in a word or two to help her along the way.

As it turns out, Bubbles was rather intelligent for a kid, and with a few volunteers - she was able to come up with a few remedies that treated the symptoms and prevent the spread of bacteria. How? How was this kid doing this? Bubbles would suspiciously avoid any prodding and questions Dona would throw at her, so eventually she gave up and just accepted the fawn for what she was.

In the matter of two years; their homeland had become completely ill free and Bubbles was ready to move on from there. At first Dona didn't understand, but the now young doe looked at the rabbit with a serious yet sad expression - with a quiet tone to follow,

"You've been there for me for so long, supporting and caring for me, working yourself to the bone while also helping me raise funds for this project regardless of how impossible it may have seemed at the time. I can't thank you enough for that in return. So now I want to help you."

Bubbles pulled out a little envelope and placed it in the hand of her confused guardian,

"My tea was a complete success and I think it's only right to share the profit with you. Also.."

The doe looked at the ground, suddenly finding it more interesting than Dona's shocked expression,

"I will be leaving, you see, now that our country is 'clean' - I want to help other unfortunate souls who fell ill to this terrible plague."

Dona didn't think her eyes could widen any further than they were and before she could squeak out a word of protest; Bubbles gently placed her hoof over her paw and with a sad smile, she spoke,

"I need to do this, no, I want to do this. Dona.. please understand, in my heart, this feels so very right. I'm not unhappy with you, please don't ever think that. You'll always be my best friend and guardian that I have ever had; I will miss you so much, but please.. please.."

Finally, after several minutes, Dona found her voice and quickly drew the doe in strong heartfelt hug. Tears stung her eyes as she softly whispered,

"I'm so proud of you, you know that? I know your parents would be, too."

Dona leaned back and wiped the tears from her eyes, truly smiling with admiration,

"You go and do what you think is right, follow your heart, I'll be here to support you no matter what."
