-Arthur C Clarke

Name: Mazarine

Mazarine was born on the coast of New Caledonia, just inland of the beautiful coral reefs. As one of the few stray crocodiles found in New Caledonia, Mazarine’s life was often somewhat lonely. She turned to the coral reef to discover a feeling of belonging, peacefully studying the many vibrant species there. The reef truly became a part of her identity. During her time on the beaches, Mazarine picked up French from the colonists and tourists there.
Industrialized nickel mining in New Caledonia, however, began to threaten the coral reef. Pollution and silt runoff from the mines encroaches daily on the one place Mazarine feels most at home. As the destruction increased, Mazarine had to leave her tropical home.
As a result of the destruction that plagues her home, Mazarine took to environmental activism. She is passionate and outspokem about protection of the oceans and marine life. Although she can be cynical because of losing her home, Mazarine is optimistic about saving the environment. She is currently working with an organization to clean up plastic waste in the Pacific Ocean.
