Hiram is the second-oldest but unlike Sadie Mae, his experiences haven't mellowed him out much. He still works as a commissioned trapper and tracker out in the wilds most of the time, and greatly enjoys the dangers and wonders of the natural world. He occassionally assists Paxton in his animal work, though, Paxton usually prefers not to have him around the animals he is in the process of taming (lest his more assertive nature frighten Paxton's animals).
