YOu really need to equip Dances with at least an elaborate sword and the tusk sword. The light aligned sword you are using isn't that good against anything but dark monsters. For neutral and light monsters you need the elaborate and tusk. Tusk is a bit stronger than the elaborate, but needs to be repaired more often. I don't know maybe your shield makes a difference, but the sword you are using needs repairing faster than the elaborate and you will find its a pain in the neck constantly repairing.
