New Species and Rules Revamp
Posted by Mat on 28 Jul 2016, 6:30 pm
Good evening villagers, we are happy to announce that Olde Foxbury now has its own rare species, the Saggitari! This taurian species fits in perfectly with the atmosphere of Olde Foxbury, and comes in three initial colors: Giraffe, Quagga, and Okapi.
Second, our staff has gotten together to discuss and completely revamp the Rules pages. We have condensed the three rules pages (Code of Conduct, Forum, and Chat) into one single rules page, which is linked from the Terms of Service. As the game has been open for three weeks, we have gotten an idea of what rules are necessary to keep it functioning smoothly, and have made adjustments accordingly.
Following our rules update, we will be closing our forums for approximately twenty-four hours for clean-up (but we will likely re-open them sooner). One issue we have been tackling is the sheer amount of spam that has hit our forums, and as soon as the clean-up of spam is complete we will re-open the forums for everyone to enjoy. The chatrooms will remain open if you would like to contact other players, and our moderators will be diligently watching the channels.
Have a great evening!
As a heads up to whomever - the maintenance market repair system for houses is not working. When I go to complete a repair through any of the menus to do so, it just sits and loads without registering anything.
@MOD-Deinmaar Okay, so if I speak to a staff member about some site function that all users have access to, and that staff member clarifies a rule for me - I am allowed to tell people the clarification, however I cannot mention that said clarification came from a staff member? So, it's up the my fellow players to decide if I am telling the truth or have any basis whatsoever for my clarification or if I'm just just making it up? For if they ask how I got this information and I say "a mod told me" then I am breaking a rule and therefore in trouble.
@MOD-Deinmaar
I suppose that will have to do for now. No RPing bilingual characters for me for the time being sadly
thanks!
Azzie
[email protected] doesn't go to the MODs. It goes directly to the Top Admin, who puts everything together. Also, talking about MOD actions and correspondence is still against TOS, as when people talk about it, they only get one side, and that turns into a riot against what one person says happened. And MODs don't have the time to be going into every thread/chat to explain things.
@arts-waifu
If people can't be accepting of mental illnesses and genders, then they probably shouldn't be here. If they can't be nice, which is part of the TOS, they'll get what's coming to them.
thecatsred
I would avoid it for now, just because we would still have to go and try and translate it to make sure that the translation is actually correct.
Velo
Someone can express a rule clarification without mentioning that they had to ask a MOD, honestly
I agree with Art-waifu, I mean I understand FV doesn't want to come across as close minded, but sadly threads about the mentioned topics tend to end up in a drama storm anyways, people just can't be mature to each other about them. so yeah they should be banned too
@MOD-Deinmaar
The update to the rules is good, but I honestly feel like more things need to be barred from threads than simply religion, politics, alcohol, and drugs. Threads about sexuality or gender, mental illness threads, and otherkin/fictionkin threads are prime targets for trolls and people looking to harass others, and even though you guys put in the site rules to "be nice" there are some people who are going to purposely disregard that and still go out of their way to harass people in these kinds of threads. These topics are better suited to private chats or off-site discussion, anyway.
I know I saw a thread yesterday where another user was expressing that they'd like these topics banned, as they have been banned on other sites in the past due to issues that have arisen from their existence, and I have to say I agree. I'd like to see these added to the list for topics that can't be posted about.
@MOD-Deinmaar
Ty for responding! I promise I'm not trying to be a pain, but would we be able to write single words or short phrases in non-english, provided we have a translation immediately following? Aka, I post an rp or something, and my character says like... 'dónde está su gato?' And I add (where is your cat) right after? Or even just saying 'hola'? Or something most people know? Sorry if I'm being difficult I don't want to get in trouble later on
Those news about a new species in Olde Foxbury seems pretty interesting. I think this is cool, adding even more species, even though it may be difficult for me to get them. I see this as a good update; both the Saggitari and Rules Revamp.
What I can not stop thinking is that by the time Shifty's came - which are only avaliable in the shop for the Tigereye Peak villagers - people were starting to change their village choice and everyone were kind of jealous of this thing. However, since Olde Foxbury also has a new thing now, I am guessing that soon every village will have even more exclusive things, that are cool and special, but you only get at one place. Please correct me if I am very wrong, but I just wanted to share my thoughts.
Echoing some things other people have said...
-We need more forum bumps in specific sections, Item, Villager & Paintie Commissions. One bump a day is going to leave many threads buried.
-I think we should be able to publicly share any conversation we have with a staff member. Transparency is a very good thing and it creates more trust in the staff then hate in the staff I can promise you, speaking from experience. Even if it's only private conversations about certain issues, which @MOD-Deinmaar said the rules don't clarify that and put it under an umbrella term. People don't want the site to end up us not being able to share or say any information about the staff of the site, and trying to silence people will only create more frustration.
-We need a suggestions forum thread and we should not be forced to send suggestions directly to the mods. A good suggestion needs to be discussed before it is acted on, and letting players give their feedback can make a good idea even better. Plus, having a suggestion sub-forum would keep ideas from getting lost.
-We need a games forum thread (I'd even be happy with it being an off-topic sub forum)
-Debates are a good thing, but I agree in keeping religion in politics out of it (mainly because debating about those things isn't likely to change anyone's mind)
That's what I think about the update.
@MOD-Deinmaar Well if that's the case, that makes sense. I understand keeping sensitive information about "issues" private. But the rule only says "Also, sharing staff correspondence is not allowed." Which to me, means sharing anything said between one and a staff member is not allowed. Maybe it should be re-worded to clarify that sharing correspondences regarding staff actions is not allowed. Or state that sharing rule clarifications is allowed, but anything else isn't. As of now, the rule states that any bit of information discussed with a staff member cannot be shared with others.
