New Species and Rules Revamp
Posted by Mat on 28 Jul 2016, 6:30 pm
Good evening villagers, we are happy to announce that Olde Foxbury now has its own rare species, the Saggitari! This taurian species fits in perfectly with the atmosphere of Olde Foxbury, and comes in three initial colors: Giraffe, Quagga, and Okapi.
Second, our staff has gotten together to discuss and completely revamp the Rules pages. We have condensed the three rules pages (Code of Conduct, Forum, and Chat) into one single rules page, which is linked from the Terms of Service. As the game has been open for three weeks, we have gotten an idea of what rules are necessary to keep it functioning smoothly, and have made adjustments accordingly.
Following our rules update, we will be closing our forums for approximately twenty-four hours for clean-up (but we will likely re-open them sooner). One issue we have been tackling is the sheer amount of spam that has hit our forums, and as soon as the clean-up of spam is complete we will re-open the forums for everyone to enjoy. The chatrooms will remain open if you would like to contact other players, and our moderators will be diligently watching the channels.
Have a great evening!
@Pippi Dragonsmaw's special species is the Wickerbeast :) also i agree the saggitari looks super cool! :0
Will Dragonsmaw get a special species, too?? I really like the new one!
The rules page is a lot better now, thanks! Its certainly cleared up a lot of issues the site has been having so far. (also thank you for cleaning out the spam) and YAY! CENTAURS!!
I think the "English only" rule isn't really that big of a deal, guys. This game is still in beta, and the few mods that they have right now all obviously only know English. It'd be a mess for them to have to copy and paste what a user is saying in another language into google translate, which is not very accurate to begin with, and it'd just be something else the mods would have to worry about.
By the time they fully release the game they'll most likely have hired more mods that know several different languages, so the "English only" thing is probably just temporary.
TAURS TAURS TAURS
serious comment: thank you, furvilla staff, for making the rules page so clear. like, honestly, it's very clear what the rules are now and which things are separated into what, and i appreciate that.
the english only rule is a little ehhhhhh but yeah i understand not wanting to have people discussing things that aint allowed but you have no idea because you havent sat down and learned the language.
Wolfie thecatsred I think it's because it's a USA based website with probably USA mods and admins that might be the reason why it's not very openly bilingual because possibly the staff don't speak a lot of different languages or there could be possible problems with translations in order to keep it clean.
I understand where you'd be hurt Wolfie along side many others but it's also that English is a universal language as well and it would be lovely to see more staff have broader language skills but there could be possible problems of them hiring people maybe out of country that can speak all sorts of languages (cost and time zone differences). Also they might not be able to hire more because of not enough money yet since it's still in Beta.
Yoooooo private-only mod correspondence is PRETTY SHADY and suuuure stinks of avoiding accountability!
All the rules changes seem reasonable to me. Very glad to hear about the backseat modding. I saw people trying to do that and it's obnoxious. Thread bumping was getting out of hand, too. I can see a loophole around it- you can only bump your own thread once, but others bumping (in a raffle thread for example) isn't prohibited. Yet. LOL!
The new species looks very cool. Congrats to Foxbury for finally getting their own unique species! Although now I'm wondering when Tigereye will get one since Shifties apparently don't count.
Nice clean update to rules, and nice new species!
However I am going to echo the Speak Only English rule - it seems like you are purposefully excluding people who may speak English as a second language (or third or fourth) and also those who wish to practice a language with like-minded individuals. A single thread per language should be welcome, and if anyone posts crude things in there, it can easily be flagged by another member. Google translate also exists.
On a lesser note this also weakens RP opportunities, if people have bilingual characters.
I find the speak English only to be hurtful. A lot of people may know the language but those who only know so little tend to struggle in trying to type out something. This rule feels like you're pushing those who are barely bilingual away. I feel that maybe you guys should consider hiring mods who are bilingual so that they can monitor the chat. In every other browser based game every language is allowed and that's because despite a game being in English everyone is welcomed.
