Seeking Programming Talent

We come to you today with the unfortunate news that our developer has been missing since the server move in June. We know that some of you have been waiting for a fix to the daily streak, and many prospective players have e-mailed us expressing concern over being unable to join the game, but we have not been able to fix these problems without the aid of a developer. It appears at this time we must accept the inevitability of finding another programmer.

Until we are able to find a new programmer, the Oceandome event is on indefinite hiatus. Our focus right now is going to be finding a developer who can fix the registration bug and fix the IP queue (which was unfortunately damaged during the server move as well). At that point, we can address the daily streak and start thinking about the Oceandome event again, as all of the documents for the event are planned out and much of the content is ready, we simply need the programming to go forward with our plans.

This lack of programming staff has thrown a big wrench into all of our planned changes, so please bear with us while we try to find someone who can appropriately tend to our codebase. As you may guess, Furvilla is a very large and complex site. As such, we have to be vigilant with who we hire to ensure their skill level matches the demands of the codebase.

That said, if you are a programmer familiar with PHP and the Laravel framework and are interested in becoming a Furvilla developer, please contact us with your portfolio at [email protected].

We hope to find a new developer soon so we can get back on track. We'll let everyone know when we've found a good match!

NOTE: The Oceandome Event is NOT BEING CANCELLED, the Event is simply being POSTPONED.

    • Ah, so that makes more sense. Please keep us posted, as not everyone's going to be looking on twitter or the forums for information!

    • I was thinking of applying but now I read this I'm unsure// Never tried Laravel tbh e-e
      Other than this, I hope the missing dev is okay! ;;

    • We really have no idea if the developer is safe or simply ignoring us. There is no way to know. We do not live in that country and cannot check.

We had been hoping the developer might show up and have the event ready because we were instructed to give the information for the event a month in advance to ensure it would be done on time due to a busy schedule, but with absolutely zero communication coming from the developer we have to make the call that the event probably will not be coming. It was all in the name of hope.

We have no more information than you do.

    • okay, that came off harsh. but FV has been notorious for burying important information, if it is ever given to users at all.
(like how it's been a month and only now are we being told OD event is canceled, or hosting a site poll unadvertised and not even on the site that you need a twitter to even participate in. I'm a bit salty.)

    • This raises some questions. What do you mean by "missing"? Like they just aren't talking, or they disappeared off the planet?
Also, if this has been going on since last month, why are we only being told now, when folks are waiting on this month's event? Wouldn't it have been better to let us know before then?

    • Edit: Ah, okay. That makes a bit more sense.

    • Hopefully the missing dev is just missing as in no online contact!

    • Sucks to hear. Hope that you find another one soon!

To be perfectly honest, I'm with everyone else wondering why this wasn't announced previously. Seems like something we would've needed to know earlier...

Also, clairification about whether they're ignoring or actually disappeared would be good. News post makes it a bit too vague.

    • Communication with the developer has been spotty in the past, and sometimes it can take a week or more before we heard anything from them. They also let us know that they were going to be busy, so being patient waiting for a response is the correct way to go about things.

However, about two weeks ago we decided to reach out to our second developer and see if they had heard from the first one, and could fix the bugs. Our second developer has indicated they have no time to work on Furvilla either and have not heard from the first. We then reached out to a third developer we have experience working with, and received no response there. Now that we have exhausted all three avenues of fixing this problem, it is time to make a public announcement that we are looking for new talent.

Rushing through things is never the right answer because it could very well lead to alienating someone who is simply busy and cannot respond in a week or two weeks. However it has been long enough, we cannot continue waiting without knowing what is going on.

    • "We'll let everyone know when we've found a good match!"
does this mean we'll actually be getting an actual news post in the news, or will it be a tiny post on a forum thread somewhere (or off-site)?
