Seeking Programming Talent

Programmers.png

We come to you today with the unfortunate news that our developer has been missing since the server move in June. We know that some of you have been waiting for a fix to the daily streak, and many prospective players have e-mailed us expressing concern over being unable to join the game, but we have not been able to fix these problems without the aid of a developer. It appears at this time we must accept the inevitability of finding another programmer.

Until we are able to find a new programmer, the Oceandome event is on indefinite hiatus. Our focus right now is going to be finding a developer who can fix the registration bug and fix the IP queue (which was unfortunately damaged during the server move as well). At that point, we can address the daily streak and start thinking about the Oceandome event again, as all of the documents for the event are planned out and much of the content is ready, we simply need the programming to go forward with our plans.

This lack of programming staff has thrown a big wrench into all of our planned changes, so please bear with us while we try to find someone who can appropriately tend to our codebase. As you may guess, Furvilla is a very large and complex site. As such, we have to be vigilant with who we hire to ensure their skill level matches the demands of the codebase.

That said, if you are a programmer familiar with PHP and the Laravel framework and are interested in becoming a Furvilla developer, please contact us with your portfolio at [email protected].

We hope to find a new developer soon so we can get back on track. We'll let everyone know when we've found a good match!

NOTE: The Oceandome Event is NOT BEING CANCELLED, the Event is simply being POSTPONED.

    • i'm so confused.... do you guys... not pay your coders???

    • I'm so sorry to hear about this unfortunate turn of events. Hope things would get better soon. Hugs!

    • I'm on FV's side with this one too, I agree entirely with Coo 's post.

Though, in the future, Furvilla should seriously consider hiring a coder specifically for itself and pay them full-time. This site is extremely ambitious with the events, and requires new coding every two months even if nothing else goes wrong. I think it may help to have someone here all the time. But, then again, I'm not a professional and you guys probably know your site and budget best.

Hope all goes well! I'm glad for the news post to keep us updated. Of course this would somehow happen to Oceandome, I think the dome is made of broken mirrors, has a tradition of opening umbrellas indoors, and was constructed under a giant ladder. It's that unlucky.

    • Oh gosh, I'm so sorry about this situation, I wish there was something I could do to help.

I wish you luck in locating a new programmer, and fixing the few issues that lie here.

    • "Indefinite hiatus" are two words that in my experience usually do mean "cancelled" rather than "postponed" but if ya'll are really sure it will still be happening, I'll probably wait forever haha...
oceandome aesthetic is the main reason I joined to begin with and it feels kinda bad that OD is the village that keeps getting the bad luck of the site, but I know that's just unfortunate coincidence... hope things get fixed soon. was really looking forward to it... but I guess it's best to make sure everything's functional before hosting a big event like that. even if it takes a while to find someone I really hope it's not dragged out so long that oceandome misses out...

    • In response to the "Furvilla keeping secrets!" brigade, In this case I have to side with Furvilla. If they had released this information early june and then one of their 3...yes 3..developers responded in time. It would have been even worse PR than what they are doing now. The public isn't going to want to be scared over every hint of a problem...if furvilla started doing that we'd see notifications every other day of issues that generally get resolved in a timely manner.

I think the fact that they exhausted all their options before turning to the public was the right call. I'm sure they'll find a developer soon... passed along the info to some professionals I know in this field as well. ^-^

There is a LOT that we can't do without a coder. But the Sharks were going to be released with the event, which is currently postponed, so the Shark release is postponed as well. We are currently a bit more concerned about fixing Registration and IP Queue so people can actually make accounts.

    • Will new villager species still be able to be added? I know the sharks are for the OD event, but i saw sketches of those shark lions and I am very much looking forward to those!

    • this is really unfortunate, I hope you can find new programmer soon! I want to thank you for making this news post though, and keeping us up to date. it's very appreciated.

    • Good for you for coming forward and posting what you already knew would be completely unpopular. I'm so sorry this has happened, but LIFE happens while we all make plans and events and get fun things lined up.

The first programmer could have had something dire, like landed in the hospital. I've had it happen before with an artist out of country. Long term patience and they eventually made it to a computer to let me know what happened, but still, best laid plans can be derailed.

As for the other developers that really is some bad luck. Best wishes for finding someone to fill the needs.
