Upgrading Equipment

Upgrading Equipment
last updated 6 Jul 2021

Equipment can be upgraded in two different aspects: by increasing potency or by increasing the number of sockets. This guide will go over both.

Potency is a multiplier to all of the stats visible when hovering over an item. It appears as a percentage after all equipment items. For example, a 130% Thatcher's Amulet will have 200*1.3 = 260 mitigation but still only do 600 physical damage. These stats will appear to be rounded to the nearest integer, but are actually decimal values.

description.png
On a Thatcher's Amulet, only the mitigation is affected by potency because the damage isn't visible when hovering over the item!

Unskilled blacksmiths can craft equipment with a minimum of 50% potency. A skilled blacksmith can craft equipment with a maximum of 150% potency. Equipment spawned by the site (for example, from after winning a battle) has a minimum of 100% potency and a maximum of 150% potency.

Sockets indicate how many crystals can be added to an item. They appear as a number in brackets [ ] on equipment that has at least one. Sockets, on their own, don't improve the stats on a piece of equipment. Rather, they allow users to add crystals, which then can either alter the stats on an item or add a passive status effect to either the user or opponent. Crystals are meant to be single use but can be recovered using a Crystal Remover which costs 150,000 FC in The Fair Exchange (can be haggled down to 142,500 FC) or 150 FD in the FurDollar Emporium.

Certain equips can be created or spawned with sockets. This information is visible in the item museum if applicable. Each additional socket has a 10% chance of spawning.

details.png
For example, 0.01% of Icy Swords have 4 sockets, 0.36% have 3, 4.86% have 2, 29.16% have 1, and 65.61% have 0.

Upgrading Potency
Potency can only be increased. The process is fairly straightforward, and you can do it using any of the following items. From your inventory, select "Use" after clicking on the upgrader you wish to use, and pick the equipment whose potency you want to increase.

A note about crystals:
The stats altered by crystals are not affected by potency. For example, a Ring Crystal: Capacity adds the same 1 intelligence to a 100% Opal Ring as it does to a 150% Opal Ring.

Weapon Crystal damage will not necessarily show up when hovering over the item unless that damage type was already present.

For example, an Icy Sword (100%) [1] equipped with a Weapon Crystal: Fire and Frost will do 190 - 240 Frost Damage and 110 - 130 Fire Damage, but when hovering over it, you'll only see 190-240 Frost Damage.
